Hi! I’m Emily and I’m glad you stopped by. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I’m a stay at home mom to 4 kids and married to my high school sweetheart.
Since I was a kid I have always had a love for all things domestic. My favorite shows were the cooking and sewing shows on PBS.
As I grew I spent many hours watching and learning from family and friends how to do things like cook, bake, clean and sew to name a few.
I have always had an appreciation for these types of skills. For as long as I can remember I just wanted to be a wife and mother. To take care of my family and house with the important skills I had learned along the way.
I was fortunate enough to become a full time wife and mother after my second child was born. Along with the joy of staying home to raise my children came the realization that frugal living was a must. We didn’t want to just survive on one income we wanted to thrive.
I began to really hone my skills as a cook and baker. I figured out ways to create something out of nothing. Sewing became more than just a hobby. It turned into a business. I tried my hand at more and more DIY projects with plenty of help and encouragement from my husband along the way.
These God given talents that I had perfected along the way helped me to create the life that I had always hoped for. I was at home cooking, baking, sewing and creating for the one’s I love.
That’s what makes it so wonderful. I’m not doing it to impress anyone. I don’t aspire to be Supermom. I’m not trying to show anyone up. I’m doing it to make myself and my family happy.
That’s what The Modest Cottage is all about. Learning these skills for the first time or dusting them off after neglect. It’s not about creating a magazine photo shoot. It’s about showing love through simple everyday tasks.
Remember, each new day is the chance to show someone that you care.
