Part of the fun of celebrating Valentine’s Day is wearing pink and red and hearts. This time of year lots of clothing stores have Valentine’s Day t-shirts on the racks some are over the top with the decorations and others are more subtle, but still show you like the holiday.
The problem with these store bought t-shirts is that the major colors are usually pink or red, which is fine if like those colors. What if you don’t like those colors, but still want to get in the Valentine’s Day spirit? Make a Valentine’s Day t-shirt for yourself.
You can buy just about any color t-shirt at a craft store or on-line, so you could pick your favorite color and then try my technique to create your own design.
Supplies:
T-shirt (any color, long or short sleeved)
Wide tape (such as packing or painters) or adhesive wall decals
Spray bottle
Bleach
Garbage bag
All supplies are available at Dollar Tree
Take the garbage bag and unfold it so that it will fit inside the t-shirt to protect the back of the t-shirt.
Create a design on the tape and cut it out and place on the shirt or do as I did and use adhesive wall decals. I had decals left over from this craft and used the left overs for my design since it was hearts. Arrange your design making sure it is centered and looks the way that you want.
Fill a clean spray bottle with a small amount of liquid bleach. Just enough that it will spray. Adjust the nozzle to the spray position, not stream. Gently spray bleach onto the t-shirt over the design. Be very careful not to get bleach on the clothes that you are wearing and be mindful of over spray. Do not soak the shirt, just spritz, so that you can see droplets of bleach all over the design. Let dry.
Once dry gently remove the design.
You will immediately be able to see the results. Then wash your shirt separately with a small amount of detergent and dry on the cotton cycle.
An alternative method would be to use a white t-shirt and use tye-dye in the color of your choice in a spray bottle. Use the same technique and achieve similar results.
This is a great way to create a Valentine’s Day shirt for your boys or husband that isn’t in a girly color. Although, to be honest I don’t know any men who are dying to wear a Valentine’s Day t-shirt, but maybe you could make one for a young son.
