Difficulty: Beginner
This is such a simple and easy idea, but it makes a huge impact next to your front door. You could also use this decoration next to your back door if that is where you enter.
Basically you want the benefit of being able to see it as well as guests. Let’s not forget the people that deliver mail and packages. They look at front porches all day and this will make it look more festive and inviting.
You may have all the supplies you need all ready on hand and if not you can pick some up while out running your Christmas errands. For little to no money you can create this festive front porch décor.
Supplies
Empty boxes, heavy card board is best (2-3 in varying sizes or shapes)
Wrapping paper (printed or solid)
Gift wrap tape or clear packing tape
Wire edged ribbon printed or solid)
Fabric drawstring gift bag (same size as or bigger than the stacked boxes)
Stuffing for bag (newspaper, plastic bags, fiberfill, tissue paper)
Weights, 1 for each box and bag (bricks, rocks, canned goods, dumbbells, bags of pennies)
I know that seems like a lot of stuff, but there is a good chance you have everything already, I know I did.
Start with your boxes. Put a weight inside each box and tape the lids shut.
Then wrap each box in wrapping paper. To protect from the elements you could then cover each wrapped box in clear contact paper. I thought of that after the fact, but didn’t have any on hand. Stack the boxes from the largest up to the smallest.
Wrap 1 piece of ribbon around the stack of boxes and secure at the top with tape. You can wrap all the way around the boxes with another piece of ribbon or do it like I did. Cut 2 pieces and secure to the top and bottom with tape, this way uses less ribbon.

Take another length of ribbon and fold one end over the other toward the middle of the ribbon creating a simple bow shape.
Pinch the middle together and wrap a small length of ribbon around the pinched section.
Tie in a knot in the back.
Flip the bow over and adjust the shape until it looks nice.
Place the bow on top of the package and staple the bow to the ribbon on top of the package in a few places.
Take the gift bag open it up and place a weight in the bottom.
Then stuff the gift bag until it is nice and plump.
Once it is full pull the drawstring tight and tie into a bow.
Take the stack of boxes and bag out your front door and arrange next to the door. Try putting the bag next to the stack of boxes or on top. Depending on the height of your boxes and the size of your bag one arrangement will look better than another.
For little to no money and little to no effort you have a festive and pretty decoration right next to your front door. Your kids may ask if there are presents inside, you can decide if you want to be straight with them, haha!
Happy Decorating!
